In the 2002 Formula 1 season Sauber competed with Nick Heidfeld and Filipe Massa as drivers.
In this year the team was exclusively supplied with the Ferrari customer engines.
The engines used were the 3 litre V10 engines of the 051 series which had been used by the Scuderia for the F2001 driven by Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello in 2001.
Ferrari built 40 new engines for Sauber which, because of the sponsor, were feferred to as Petronas 02A V10.
