Arno Dietrich first worked as engineer for the motorcycle manufacturers Triumph and Premier before he founded his own company,which was named after him Ardie, in Nuremberg in 1919.
He began to build motorcycles with two stroke engines designed by him.
During a test drive with a motorcycle he suffered a fatal accident in 1922.
Shortly afterwards the company was converted into an Ltd and continued by the brothers Bendit.
