Zakspeed West Formel 1

Year: 1989
Power: 748 PS
Capacity: 1495 ccm
Engine: V8

But two German teams have made serious attempts up to now to gain a foothold in the Formula 1.

One was the Zakspeed team founded by Erich Zakowski from the small town Niederzissen in the Eifel region.

At the beginning both the chassis and the turbo engine were built in house.

When turbo engines were banned towards the end of 1988, Zakspeed continued to race with Yamaha engines for two more years.

The German Bernd Schneider drove this Zakspeed Formula One in the World Championship season of 1987.

The best ranking with this car was the 5th place in Imola at the GP of San Marino in april 1987.
