For many years the Jaguar D-Type was considered unbeatable.
From 1955 thorough 1957 a car of this type won the 24-hours of Le Mans three times in series.
In 1954 Stirling Moss reached the 270 km/h mark, a fabulous top-speed for that time, on the Hunundieres straight.
Because of a devastating fire in 1957, which destroyed the parent plant in Coventry almost completely, Jaguar decided to abandon all racing activities for the being.
In 1962 the E-Type, direct derivative of the D-Type, was introduced, a model that helped Jaguar to achieve one of its best financial results.
