The VW T1, also nicknamed Bulli was a small transport vehicle built by Volkswagen.

The first series was the VW beetle referred to in house as Type 1.

Development of the VW transporter was commenced in 1949.

Series production started on 8 March 1950 in the VW factory Wolfsburg.

The car, which was the market leader in its time, is considered an icon of the German Economic miracle.

The price of the Type 2 at the time of introduction was 5,850 DM and thus was 150 DM higher than the price of a fully equipped beetle.

Inflation adjusted the price today would be 14200 EURO.

About 1.8 million T1 in different versions were built in the VW factories Wolfsburg and Hannover.

Production of the T1 was discontinued after introduction of the follow-up model T2 in 1967.
