There was little reason to envy the design engineers.

The change of rules for the 1998 season was truly discouraging: a by 20 cm reduced tread, a wider cockpit, which gives the pilot more room on both side and at last, the profiled tires, resulted in a difficult task.

In 2012 the German kart chassis maker Mach 1 cart of Brackenheim for the first time provided the identical kart chassis for the Rotax Kart World Final 2012 in Portugal.

For years the Rotax World Final is regarded as the year's end kart top event and brings together the best pilot from all other the world for a great final.

For this event the engine maker from Austria puts a strong emphasis on equal equipment and therefore provides all participants with the same brand new kart chassis and engine.

After qualifying 40 karts were within one second.

The quickest male driver of the world final was the Canadian Ben Cooper followed by konstantins Calko from Latvia and the Belgian Mathias Detige.

The BMW Sauber Formula 1 team is a German / Swiss Formula 1 racing team and the factory team of the automobile company BMW.

It competes in the most prestigious motor sport series since 2006 and originated from the former Sauber team.

However, at the end of the 2009 season BMW will retire from Formula 1 racing.

In 2007, the BMW Sauber Formula 1 team again competed with the drivers Nick Heidfeld and Rober Kubica and could establish itself during the first races as number three of the top teams.

Mercedes Benz 540 K

The successor pf the Type 500 K was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1936.

The Type 540 K was equipped with an 8 cylinder OHV in line engine with connectable Roots supercharger but otherwise had comparable technical features.

The output of the engine climbed to 115 hp without and 180 hp with supercharger.

The maximum speed rose to 170 km/h.

Mercedes Benz 400 K

The Mercedes model 15/70/100 hp was designed by Ferdinand Porsche  after the demise of his predecessor Paul Daimler.

It was put on the market in 1924.

The 3920 cc six cylinder in line engine with overhead camshaft and beveldrive had an output of 70 hp without and 100 hp with Roots compressor.

After the merger of Daimler and Benz in 1926 the Mercedes 15/70/100 hp remained unchanged but was now named Mercedes Benz Type 400.

This formula 1 bolide, which is a self supporting monococque has an integrated  engines as self supporting piece of the bodywork.

It has been driven in 1978 by the Brazilian racing driver Emerson Fittipaldi.

The Team manager of the Copersucar team was Wilson Fittipaldi who got his brother out of the top formula 1 McLaren racing stable to the Brazilian Copersucar team in 1976.

The drivers of the season 1998 were Jean Alesi and Johnny Herbert, who together could win 10 points.

VW Schwimmwagen Typ 166

The VW amphibious car Type 166 with all wheel drive, built from 1941, was derived from the legendary VW bucket car Type 82.

Since its small draught permitted to cross calm waters only, however, the cars was almost exclusively used on land.

There the all wheel drive, the ample ground clearance and the smooth under body gave it enormous cross country capabilities.

It is powered by an air cooled 1.1 litres / 4 cylinder boxer engine with 25 hp.

Rolls Royce Avon

The Rolls Royce Avon was the first jet engine by Rolls Royce with axial compressor.

Between 1950 and 1974 more than 11,000 units were manufactured.

It is still being produced for power generators.

Amongst others, the following civil and military aircraft were equipped with the Avon engine: English Electric Canberra & Lightning, Fairey Delta, Hawker Hunter, CAC F-86 Sabre, Sud Aviation Caravelle and Vickers 667 Valiant.

The BMW and Zundapp 750 cc motorcycles with side cars were used by the Wehrmacht as military vehicles.

These vehicles proved to be worthwile.

The rear wheel was fitted with a transmission drive, i.e. the rear axle of the motorcycle also drove the axle of the side car, so that 2 of the 3 wheels were propelled.

During the war those vehicles have been used by many army units.

At the introduction in 1954 the Cat D9 was the biggest bulldozer worldwide that was built up to that time.

One year later it was performing on construction sites all over the world.

The gigantic vehicle has a weight of 25 tons and is powered by a Cat D 353 turbine diesel engine.

On offer were two versions, model 18A with direct drive, and model 19A with torque converter.

In spite of the age of nearly 50 years this bulldozer is still completely fit for use and in a position to level as good as anything getting in the way.

The MB heavy- duty trucks were deployed as a further development of the 3 ton trucks in army navy and air force units for long range transports.

The hitherto deployed 1.5, 2 and 3 ton vehicles had proved to be inadequate with regard to load capacity and economy.

Various producers as MAN, Bussing NAG, Magirus and Daimler Benz had built vehicles of this payload class.

This truck from Mercedes was the mostly built specimen of this category.

It has proved to be very reliable and was produced until the Fifties.

Gnome Rhone AX2

From 1930 the French company Gnome Rhone located near Paris produced large motorcycles with boxer engines which somewhat resembled the BMW motorcycles.

The AX 2 with an 800 cc / SV boxer engine is the largest of this series.

Equipped with a sidecar with driven wheel it was built especially for the military between 1936 and 1945.

The engine has 4 speeds and a cardan drive.

The maximum speed with sidecar is about 110 km/h.

It is recommended to use the sidecar drive only off road since otherwise the motorcycle is difficult to control.

The assault howitzer 42 was a standard weapon of the artillery, destined for infantry support.

The engine series OM 401, OM 402, OM 403 and OM 404 designates a series of Diesel V-engines with 6 to 12 cylinders.

They were collaboratively developed during the 1970 s by Daimler-Benz and MAN and built for more than 20 years by both companies differing only by some company specific features like special combustion techniques.

The engines were mainly used for trucks.

Today, after more than 30 years, this engine type is still being built by MAN for industrial drive systems.

Today it has an output of up to 976 hp at up to 1800 rpm.

Opel Blitz

Until World War 2, Opel was the largest truck manufacturer of the German Reich.

Before the introduction of the Blitz Opel had already produced light trucks but used heterogeneous designations derived from the motorization or the payload.

The memorable name Blitz for the new truck series resulted from a contest performed in 1930.

The truck shown here has a payload of 3 tons and a four wheel drive.

Towards the end of 1950 the R45 heavy wheeled tractor was introduced as amore powerful and technically revised successor of the proven typ R40.

Hanomag fulfilled this was the demands of their customers for more power.

This all purpose 25 hp farmer's tractor, presented for the first time on occasion of the state agricultural show at Leipzig, attracted much attention.

At a sale price of 2750 RM, this model was not only the cheapest of all tractors made in Germany at all, but also because of features such as an electric starter, an adjustable track width, an enlarged ground clearance, a hydraulic jack and pneumatic tires, a convincing offer for the farmers.

Allgaier Schlepper

After the end of the war the Allgaier plant was able to take up again the manufacturing of iron products from autumn 1945 on.

At the same time, under the management of Erwin Allgaier, a low cool and simple designed farm tractor was developed, powered by an engine made by KAELBLE of Backnang, a family related company.

The condition of the French occupation force was to grant a production permit only these firms which were already engaged in particular market segments before the war: the Allgaier tractor had the KAELBLE - trademark on its radiator tank.

KAELBLE had made tractors already in the thirties.
