Porsche 911 Carrera RSR

Ordered as a raw body for a rebuilt, this car in parts was used later for constructing a new racing car for the Jochen Rohr racing team of Cincinnati/USA.

Since the officially produced Carrera RSR 3.8 were long sold out by then, Rohr used the opportunity to order a new factory body without chassis number and type label as replacement for a RS 3.8 that had crashed before.

Official notes by Porsche assign this vehicle to the Carrera RSR 3.8 series.

The car first competed on 30 May 1994 as Rohr 02 in the 1 hour race of Lime Rock and Participated in the 1994 IMSA series, mostly with Jochen Rohr as driver.

Mercedes Benz SLR 722 GT

To build the SLR 722 GT about 400 parts of the standard version were either modified or newly designed.

In particular the undercarriage, the braking system, the aerodyanmics, the interior and the exhaust system were extensively remodelled.

The core of this racing sports car is the supercharged AMG 5.5 litres V8-engine.

The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.

Porsche 911 SC Carrera

In 1973, Porsche built the legendary 911 RS.

It was the first lightweight Porsche with the 2.7 liter boxer engine featuring a mechanical piston fuel injection pump and a magnesium engine casing.

In this way, this 911 was the first one with a performance of 210 hp weighing less than 1000 kg.

Since the UR-RS was built only in 1973 and also in small umber, engines that were still available were used for another series in 1974 / 75.

However, these corresponded to the G-model with bumper and not to the F-model of 1973.

From 1974 until 1976, Porsche produced 1,534 Carrera Coupes with 508 units built in 1975.

The car shown here is number 491 of these 508 cars.

DeLorean DMC

The car with a stainless steel bodywork was produced by John De Lorean in Northern Ireland.

Before that he was director at General Motors in Detroit and dreamed of developing a super car for American standards.

Unfortunately, this vehicle had an inadequate engine to compete in the Europran market.

These factors soon ruined the DeLorean company.

There were further difficulties in Germany because of the gullwing doors.

DeLorean did not get a license acceptance for this layout in Germany.

Vector W8

The first Vector W8 with double turbocharger was presented at the New York Motor Show In September 1990.

During the next years, 17 customer cars and 2 prototypes were manufactured.

The Prices ranged from roughly 300,000 to more than 400,000 Dollars.

Its technical design did not differ much from the W2 presented in 1978.

The central element of its monocoque is a frame made of chrome moly tubes connected to aluminium honeycomb elements, carbon and Kevlar parts.

According to the manufacturer, the car reaches a top speed of 322 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The Agusta F4 was a perfect combination of speed and exclusiveness.

Top speed was in excess of 280 km/h.

This model is additionally available in a silver version, called the Diamond.

The purchase price is about 19000 Euro.

Ducati 888 Strada

With the 888 Strada and the SP5 an era ended for Ducati that had begun with the 851 S in 1989.

Continuously improved, this model was not only present on all streets but also on all racetracks in the world.

In the Superbike and Pro Superbike series, the 851 / 888 models could enjoy some successes until they were replaced by the 916 in 1994.

Special features of the bike on display:two seats, racing design painting, lighter casings, open clutch casing, lighter 48 tooth EVR clutch, larger radiator, adjustable MR footpeg assembly.

Ducati 999 Biposto

With the 999 Biposto, Ducati wanted to make the true and trusted design even better.

Due to a two arm swing arm and a changed weight distribution, handling was much better than with its predecessors.

The adjustment options for the rider were also new.

The footpegs could be adjusted in 5 steps and the tank with seat could be moved by 20 mm forward and back to achieve an optimal riding position.

In racing, the 999 continued the successes of former years and won victories and
 titles for Italy.

Special features of this bike: This 999 Biposto was delivered ex-factory painted in black, a feature reserved for only a small number.

In addition, number panels were added and the weight reduced by 12 kg.

The body work of this car has also been designed by Pininfarina.

It is the first Ferrari to be equipped with a 12-cylinder centrally located engine.

This Ferrari 365 Berlinetta has replaced the legendary Ferrari Daytona.

The Ferrari delivers 380 HP and attains a maximum speed of nearly 300 kpm.

Ferrari 250 GT

This Pinin Farina design was the first Ferrari convertible to be built in series.

The body designer Pinin Farina presented by this model a masterpiece.

Only 40 cars of this type were manufactured by Ferrari.

Moreover, the model which is exhibited in the AUTOMOBILE AND TECHNOLOGY MUSEUM is the only one to have a right-hand-steering.

This vehicle was delivered to Hong Kong in 1959 and came later on to Sweden from where it was handed over as loan to the SINSHEIM AUTOMOBILE AND TECHNOLOGY MUSEUM.

Horch 853 A

The engine has an overhead camshaft as well as a dual throat downdraft carburetor.

The top speed is 140 km/h and fuel consumption is about 20 liters per 100 km.

The Horch 853 A was ahead of its time and also a great success thanks to its advanced technology.

During its production period (1935 to 1939) 1,006 units were built.

On 7 September 2012 the car participated at the Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance, one of the most exclusive Concours of Elegance events worldwide.

Only 60 automobiles, which are all invited, are allowed to present itself at this event.

The Horch 853A is one of the rarest automobiles in the world and it was an honor for us that it was elected for this high-class event.

Maybach SW 38

The SW 38 was the last but one Maybach-model.

It was first market in 1936 and replaced the SW 35.

The displacement was bored and stroked to 3,8 l, in order to compensate the deterioring quality of gasoline, not to increase the output of the engine.

In 1941, motorcar manufacturing was discontinued in favor of war production.

Car building was not taken up again after the war.

Maybach continued motor manufacturing and was incorpotated in the MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH in 1965.

Ardie ZL 30

Arno Dietrich first worked as engineer for the motorcycle manufacturers Triumph and Premier before he founded his own company,which was named after him Ardie, in Nuremberg in 1919.

He began to build motorcycles with two stroke engines designed by him.

During a test drive with a motorcycle he suffered a fatal accident in 1922.

Shortly afterwards the company was converted into an Ltd and continued by the brothers Bendit.

The Simplex could be ordered from Daimler either as chassis only or with different bodies.

This Simplex built in 1906 has a racing body with two seats.

The 4 cylinder engine has a displacement of 5,3 liters and an output of approx 35 hp.

It reaches a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

Even after more than 100 years it is still in a fully roadworthy condition.

Bentley

This Bentley with 3 liter engine and Red Label Chassis was victorious at  Le Mans several times.

Its first owner choose the chassis because of the weather.

That's why it is a closed coupe.

During the last decades most of the closed models were converted to open ones.

The museum is happy that the closed body variant shown here survived and thus can be shown to the museum visitors in its original style.

Until today the car is in a fully roadworthy condition.

Bentley Old Mother Gun

Year: 1927

Mother Gun is not just one of the 3024 Bentley cars manufactured between 1919 and 1931 in the London district of Criclewood - rather it's probably the most famous of all.

In fact, the chassis ST 3001, completed in June 1927, was the first 4.5 litres model and its nickname goes back to the Bentley boy Woolf Barnato who, appropriate to the chassis number, rhymed: S-T-Three-O-O-One - Old Mother Gun!

A few days after completion Mother Gun, leading the field, was involved in the infamous White House Corner Crash where seven cars crashed into each other.

In the following year the car, which then was painted in dark green, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the drivers Woolf Barnato and Bernhard Rubin.

In 1934, agter several ownership changes and some minor appearances, it received the 6.5 litres six cylinder engine of the Speed Six which had won the fifth Le Man title for Bentley in 1930.

For the Brooklands competitions it was afterwards converted to a single seater and in 1936 / 1937 its new owner Robert Jackson equipped the car with the current unpainted aluminium body.

In 1937, in this shape Mother Gun circled the Brooklands oval with an average speed of 134,97 mph, corresponding to 217 km/h, with the drivers Kit Baker-Carr and George Harvey Noble.

Mercedes Benz 630K

In 1923, after the demise of Paul Daimler, the new chief designer Ferdinand Porsche commenced development of the Type 630 which was put on the marker in 1924.

In 1926 the Mercedes-Benz version K was added which had the same engine mounted in a shorter chassis.

The output was 100 hp without and 140 hp with supercharger.

It was available either as a sporty four seater with four doors or as a two door roadster.

On the right hand side of the engine hood there are three metal pipes connected to the outside for exhaust gas discharge.

This detail later became characteristic for Mercedes-Benz cars with supercharger.

The maximum speed of the sports cars is about 145 km/h.

Later on he became a team collegue of the repeated world champion Michael Schumacher on Ferrari.

Sauber Petronas C19

To stay competitive Sauber decided in 1997 to employ Ferrari engines instead of the Ford engines which they used before.

The major Malaysian sponsor Petronas agreed to pay the leasing fees but only under the condition that the engines would bear the sponsor's name.

Thus the Petronas 3.0 V10 was born.

The Partnership between Sauber and the Malaysian petrochemical company lasted until 2005.

In 2000 Sauber finished 8th in the constructor's championship with the Formula 1
car shown here piloted by Mika Salo and Pedro Diniz.

With this car Michael Schumacher started his unique formula 1 career.

With 7up as a sponsor the Irishman Eddie Jordan joined the formula 1 in 1991.

When their Belgian driver Bertrand Gachot was arrested after assaulting a cabby, Jordan was looking for a substitute pilot for the Grand Prix of Belgium.

This way Michael Schumacher got his first chance and in the training runs, right away, suceeded in finishing among the Top 10.

In the race itself a defect in the material forced Schmacher to give up after a few meters.

But this impressive performance helped him to win a contract with benetton.

M. Schumacher took part in his first GP race on the 23th August 1991.

He convinced with positive performances from the beginning.

He reserved place 7 with a Jordan 191 at Belgium after the first qualifying.

He left his team in the same year and changed to Benetton.

Schumacher received 4 world championship points in the first year.

He became world champion with Benetton in the year 1994 and 1995 before he has changed to Ferrari in 1996.

In the 2002 Formula 1 season Sauber competed with Nick Heidfeld and Filipe Massa as drivers.

In this year the team was exclusively supplied with the Ferrari customer engines.

The engines used were the 3 litre V10 engines of the 051 series which had been used by the Scuderia for the F2001 driven by Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello in 2001.

Ferrari built 40 new engines for Sauber which, because of the sponsor, were feferred to as Petronas 02A V10.

Maserati 250F

The Maserati 250F was built from 1954 until 1958 and was one of the best and long lived Formula 1 cars of Grand Prix history.

Originally Maserati had planned the car only for private drivers.

Since the financial and technical resources of private teams were limited the car had to be designed in a simple fashion.

First the 250F was referred to as 6C2500.

After the first test drivers it was renamed 250F with the number 250 standing for displacement of 2,500 cc and the F meaning Formula.

The basis of the 250F was the Masserati A6GCM.

In 1954 stirling Moss competed as private driver in the world championship with a 250F for almost the whole season.

In 1956 stirking Moss, now factory driver with Maserati, won the Grand Prix of Monaco and the Grand Prix of Italy at the Monza high speed racing track.

In 1957 Juan Manuel Fangio became Formula 1 world champion with a 250F.

Zakspeed West Formel 1

But two German teams have made serious attempts up to now to gain a foothold in the Formula 1.

One was the Zakspeed team founded by Erich Zakowski from the small town Niederzissen in the Eifel region.

At the beginning both the chassis and the turbo engine were built in house.

When turbo engines were banned towards the end of 1988, Zakspeed continued to race with Yamaha engines for two more years.

The German Bernd Schneider drove this Zakspeed Formula One in the World Championship season of 1987.

The best ranking with this car was the 5th place in Imola at the GP of San Marino in april 1987.

Honda against the rest of the world, that was the situation of the 1987 season.

The Williams pilots N. Piquet and N. Mansell shared the World Champion - title.

With seven 2nd positions and finishing first three times, the Brasilian won the World - championship again, for the third time.

Honda became world champion for the first time.

With the FW18 Damon Hill won his first and only Formula 1 championship title whilst Williams secured its eighth constructor's title.

The Williams FW18 was the most reliable Formula 1 racer of the season.

Of 2028 possible laps it finished 1778 laps, more than any other competing car.

The car won 12 of the 16 Grand Prix races of the season and in every race Damon Hill started from the first row.

McLaren Honda MP 4/5

With or wituout turbo charger, McLaren Honda was always among the leaders.

With a unsupercharged engine Alan Prost won his third world championship title after which he left McLaren since he did not want to race together with his rival Ayrton Senna in the same team any further.

Williams FW 14

At the end of this season N. Mansell won the long desired world championship, after he had barely missed it on Williams three times in the years before.

But in in the very next three races, the Williams pilots N. Mansell and R. Patrese achieved a double win.

Within five races, one behind the over, he won and showed his skill and demonstrated the superiority of his car.

After eleven runs of totally sixteen he became world champion.
